Schools
HELLO STUDENTS!
Do you sometimes wonder about the energy consumption of your school or the CO2 emissions it produces? Would you like to know how much energy is wasted and discover where and how it happens?

We have developed small electronic devices that are designed to measure the energy consumption of your school’s buildings and facilities. The information gathered by these devices is then transferred to internet-based servers, this means that you can visualize and monitor the consumption of electricity for example from any computer with internet connection. Once you know where and how energy is being wasted, you can figure out ways to fix the problem and save energy, which also means saving money and reducing C02 emissions. In our projects with office buildings and schools, we have typically seen a 20% reduction in energy consumption by the end of the first year, in some cases this has happened shortly after the beginning of the project or savings were as high as 50%. By becoming a good energy manager you can actively fight against climate change and at the same time raise money for school projects!

Saving energy comes with a prize
It is particularly rewarding for us to work with schools, since there is often a good energy savings potential and a unique educational potential that is most valuable for its long-term impact. What's more, many local authorities across Germany and in other countries, offer schools a deal called "fifty/fifty" whereby a school's incentive to reduce energy consumption is the promise of receiving 50% of the money saved through their energy saving efforts. Simultaneously, they can become eco-friendly schools. This money can be used to save more energy by buying solar panels for example, or simply to do renovations or organise activities.
If this idea appeals to you, we can team up to make your school more "intelligent" with its energy consumption.
Teaching material
deZem not only offers to schools total transparency of energy consumption and important savings, it is also a learning opportunity within different study areas:
  1. The project itself is a didactic tool to understand the link between our every day activities and the emissions that cause climate change.
  2. Energy saving options provided by common electronic devices may be studied and discussed in detail.
  3. The power and energy curves represent nice examples of the mathematical relation between a function and its integral.
  4. In physics class you can study the methods used for metering the energy flows, the difference between active and reactive power etc. The system allows for the visualisation of multiple factors (temperature, solar irradiation, wind, chemical concentrations, etc.).
  5. Since everything is so closely related to costs, basic economic concepts such as the amortization time of the project may be understood using a concrete example.
  6. In computer science it is possible to develop numerous programs for the management and analysis of data.
Working together with deZem means creating a unique and exciting project that awakens the interest of all those involved in a fun and edifying manner!
